The Pain Medicine Department is dedicated to diagnosing and developing the best treatment options for patients with cancer pain. To do this efficiently, care from the cancer pain service starts with a comprehensive assessment; our physicians then create a plan for each patient's needs and condition. Patients are reassessed frequently, allowing physicians to adjust treatment plans as needed.
MD Anderson Cancer Center has a Per Diem Advanced Practice Provider opportunity in its Pain Medicine department.The ideal candidate must have the degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Two years of clinical experience as an advanced practice provider. Pain experience is a plus.
Must be willing to work Saturdays as needed.
Per Diem Rate: $85.00 an hour

Key FunctionsClinical Duties. Functions as a clinical mid-level provider, as licensed, in proportion appropriate for the Cancer Pain Team.
Participate in developing treatment plans with the team physicians. Serve as a liaison between patients and other members of the healthcare team. Participate in the collection of patient data with appropriate documentation in patient records. Perform consultation and follow-up requests from other services in managing pain symptoms; preoperative H & P as required on patients scheduled for pain interventions, including review and ordering of pertinent lab work and tests, and dictates the summary of evaluation and treatment recommendations.
- Obtain medical history from patients through structured interviews in accordance with cancer pain service guidelines.
- Provide discharge instructions and arrange patients' follow-up in the clinic.
- Provide patient education and information on pain procedures, and reinforce formulated plans to treat pain and associated symptoms.
Participate in evaluating patient's needs; identifying complex problems affecting patient/family; and implementing policy and/or procedure changes that will improve treatment outcome and patient/family satisfaction. Coverage of Inpatient & Outpatient services as needed. May provide coverage in the outpatient center for Intrathecal pump refills. Work rotation weekends on inpatient service.
Perform other duties as assigned. DEA, DPS, Cat II Prescriptions.
EDUCATIONRequired:
Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
Required:
Two years clinical experience as an advanced practice provider.
Preferred:
Two years clinical experience as an advanced practice provider; pain experience is a plus.

- Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP) or Physician Assistant.
Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. - MAY BE
REQUIRED:
Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
