Overview
We are searching for an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who is motivated to work in a fast-paced setting. The APP works under a delineation of clinical privileges and collaborates with other members of the health care team. Practice is performed under established guidelines and clinical protocols, with independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures.
Care is provided in a developmentally appropriate manner for the ages of patients served. As an advanced practice provider, the NP or PA is responsible for education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels. This APP will care for adults in a critical care/acute care inpatient setting. Hours are 6a-5p and 5p-6a. Providers work an average of 3 shifts per week and rotate day and night shifts with the team.
Physician Assistant:
- Required Bachelor’s Degree
- PA - Cert-Physician Assistant by the Texas Medical Board
- Adult cardiology or CVICU experience strongly preferred
Nurse Practitioner:
- Master’s degree in nursing required
- RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required
- FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP from the Texas Board of Nursing required
- AG ACNP strongly preferred for this position
- Experience as a nurse practitioner in adult cardiology or CVICU strongly preferred
Physician Assistant:
- Provide medical services within the education and training of the Physician Assistant in the scope of practice and delegation of the supervising physician
- Obtain a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history and document appropriately in the patient’s medical record
- Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and document appropriately in the patient’s medical record
- Prescribe or administer medications as delegated by the supervising physician and document in medical records
- Administer appropriate vaccines as observed by physicians and documented in medical records
- Order diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses derived from gathered data
- Foster collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to improve health care
- Establish a relationship with the patient/family characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration

Nurse Practitioner:
- Daily uses advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients’ caseload; obtain a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history as documented in the patient’s medical record
- Assess the patient’s physical status through the physical examination as documented in the patient’s medical record
- Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings as documented in the patient’s medical record
- Performs or recommends age-appropriate health screening procedures as documented in the patient’s medical record
- Provides health maintenance and health promotion for patients of all ages as documented in the patient’s medical record
- Performs and evaluates diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests as documented in the patient’s medical record
- Analyzes multiple sources of data and formulates a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians
- Follows established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems and formulates a plan of care in collaboration with other health care professionals
- Evaluates patient responses to interventions and adjusts the plan of care as demonstrated in the written documentation
- Presents and documents data, impression, and plan of care for all patients
- Maintains effective communication and works to eliminate communication barriers
- Collaborates with other health care disciplines to provide comprehensive care
