Overview
Houston Metro Urology (HMU), Houston’s largest and most comprehensive urology group, is seeking a Urology Nurse Practitioner to join our growing team. With over 20 physicians, 10 locations, and more than 130 employees, HMU provides high-quality care in general urology for both men and women, as well as specialized services including incontinence care, robotic and laparoscopic surgery, kidney stone management, and treatment of genitourinary cancers.
The Urology Nurse Practitioner serves as an independent healthcare provider responsible for delivering comprehensive care to both well and ill patients in a primarily outpatient setting. This role requires a high level of clinical expertise in managing acute and chronic conditions commonly seen in urology. The Nurse Practitioner is accountable for patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, ongoing management, patient and family education, health promotion, and coordination of care.
MajorResponsibilities
- Perform comprehensive and episodic health histories and physical examinations for patients with acute, chronic, and potential health concerns.
- Establish medical diagnoses based on clinical evaluation.
- Provide appropriate medical management and treatment plans.
- Accurately execute or transcribe standing orders as directed by the supervising physician and write orders within the scope of the collaborative practice agreement.
- Discuss proposed surgical procedures, including associated risks and potential complications, to obtain informed patient consent.
- Provide routine post-operative follow-up care and manage surgical-related complications.
- Offer guidance and direction to clinic staff regarding patient care needs.
- Communicate effectively with referring and collaborating healthcare providers.
- Perform daytime hospital consultations as needed.
- Participate in a limited number of overnight call shifts, as required.
- Independently perform routine clinical procedures as outlined in the collaborative practice agreement and scope of practice, including but not limited to:
- May perform additional procedures independently, as permitted under the collaborative practice agreement and under the supervision of the responsible physician.
Education:
- Master’s degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner, or
- Master’s degree in Nursing with completion of a post-master’s Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.
Experience:
- 3–5 years of relevant clinical experience required.
- Prior urology experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
- Active RN and APRN/APNP license in the State of Texas
- National Nurse Practitioner certification through a recognized organization (AANP, ANCC, or successor organizations)
- Active DEA license or ability to obtain prior to or upon hire
- Current CPR certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
