United Surgical Partners International, Inc is seeking a motivated RN PAT to join the team at the Memorial Hermann Endoscopy Center North Freeway. The center is a multi-specialty surgery center committed to producing the highest quality work and experience for patients and their families.

Job Summary

The Preadmission Nurse (PAT RN) has responsibility for organizing and directing activities in accordance with nursing standards and applicable federal, state, and local guidelines. PAT RN may contact patients by telephone prior to surgery to assess medical and medication history, review appropriate lab, x‑ray, and EKG orders, determine where and when these procedures are to be completed, and provide preadmission teaching.

The RN can expect to care for adult patients, including older adults through geriatric, and pediatric patients from 4 months through adolescence. The RN may perform laboratory testing required prior to surgery as ordered.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare for the preadmission of the patient.
  • Meet all required deadlines; demonstrate discretionary ability in establishing priority.
  • Deliver indirect and direct patient care according to established standards, taking into consideration the age and risk factors of the patient.
  • Possess the knowledge and ability to use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of the patient.
  • Use nursing judgment in decision‑making.
  • Act as a patient advocate in meeting his/her physical and psychological needs.
  • Perform patient assessment and reassessment immediately upon admission and on a regular basis in accordance with standards of care, with documentation of these assessments as a basis for planning each patient’s care.
  • Ensure that all nursing interventions and patient responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated and that all components of the nursing process are documented in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Integrate and coordinate care across settings and among disciplines.
  • Implement physician’s orders effectively and safely in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Recognize and intervene in stressful situations.
  • Maintain BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications as applicable.
  • Maintain or acquire skills on equipment necessary to complete required responsibilities.
  • Document all records according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assess information/documents on Advant

    X, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Assist with reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Perform effectively in stressful situations to fulfill position responsibilities.
  • Provide teaching to patient/parent of child per level of understanding.
  • Perform additional duties as needed by the department.
Qualifications
  • Current Texas Nursing License.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum 2‑year experience in a hospital setting.
  • Ability to recognize, evaluate, solve problems, and correct errors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, hospital staff, physicians, vendors and the public.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, openness, receptiveness to change, creativity, and innovation.
  • Excellent teaching skills.
  • Understanding of principles of aseptic technique and their implementation.
  • Ability to care for patients from infancy to geriatrics.
  • Basic knowledge of Performance Improvement ideology.

Due to patient population speaking only Spanish, a candidate for this position must be bilingual (English/Spanish).
