Job

We are searching for an Acute Care Registered Nurse – someone who works well in a fast‑paced setting. In this position, you will provide nursing care to adult and pediatric patients with acute care needs. Working in a Cross Coverage Care Model will afford you with the unique opportunity to provide continuity care to patients with complex congenital heart disease at various stages within our Heart Center of Excellence.

Patients with congenital heart disease need life‑long cardiac care from pediatrics to adulthood. Come be a part of their journey as a member of this specialized care team. The learning opportunities are endless beginning with training on a variety of Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD’s), multiple infusions like Heparin and Diuretics, hemodynamic monitoring, early mobilization, and respiratory therapy management.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, or an associate’s degree in nursing and current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is required
  • Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and current BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required
  • 1 year of professional nursing experience required, 2 years preferred
  • Experience preferred in Cardiology, Acute Care, or Intermediate (IMU/Stepdown)
  • The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills, good time and resource management skills, flexibility, strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of unit‑specific equipment, and knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, and interdisciplinary collaboration

Responsibilities
  • Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental (age‑appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner
  • Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problems, and detects changes in patient status
  • Re‑prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient’s condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record
  • Assists patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate
  • Assesses patient family learning needs, capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching
  • Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members
  • Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance
  • Participates in unit performance improvement initiatives
