Registered Nurse (RN) II is a licensed staff nurse, an experienced clinician, functioning at the Competent to Proficient stage of Benner's model. The role provides professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, conducts assessments, assists with exams and treatment, patient education, and maintains medical records. It delivers direct patient care efficiently, supporting patients with varied and complex needs. The RN II collaborates with physicians and interprofessional health team to facilitate coordinated, compassionate, efficient, quality care and desired outcomes.

The RN II demonstrates clinical competence using technology, administering medications, performing procedures, managing emergencies and advocating for patient/family rights. Leadership roles include participating or leading unit/shared governance initiatives, serving as charge nurse or preceptor to students/new employees, and contributing to service line/hospital-wide initiatives with management.

Non‑exempt

• Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) in the Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations section.
• Twelve months registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment.
• RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure - Texas Board of  Compact Licensure – Must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency).
• BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
• Magnet - ANCC Recognized Certification (Preferred).
• PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Instructor (AHA) if Pediatric care (Preferred).

• Demonstrates required skills and competencies through ongoing assessments and performance evaluations as defined in orientation and annual departmental competency checklists.
• Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary to perform essential functions, especially impacting patient or employee safety.
• Effectively communicates with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers using a customer‑service focus and positive language principles.
• Strong assessment, organizational and problem‑solving skills evidenced by capacity to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Functions independently, exercising judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team, patients, and families.
• Uses critical thinking and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
• Proficient time‑management skills.
• Maintains professional contributions as defined in the Clinical Career Path program guide.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft products including Outlook.

• Uses therapeutic communication, active listening, and teaching to establish relationships with patients, families, and interprofessional health care team to collaborate on the plan of care.
• Contributes to teamwork by being aware of overall unit acuity, offering assistance, and responding positively to requests for assistance. Collaborates to foster healthy relationships and seeks guidance from or offers guidance to the interprofessional care team, applying feedback to improve patient outcomes.
• Implements staff education specific to patient populations and unit processes; coaches and mentors other staff and students (may include preceptorship). Uses peer‑to‑peer accountability toward improvement of department score for turnover, retention, and employee engagement on unit‑based scorecard.

• Follows patient and family‑centered care standards and conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, and maintains medical records. Practices in a manner congruent with cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
• Develops, updates, and communicates plan of care, including discharge, in partnership with patient, family, and interprofessional health care team using the nursing process.
