Hospital Nurse Manager – Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center/HCPC
UTHealth Houston is hiring a Hospital Nurse Manager to lead patient care across our 23 specialized inpatient units covering Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Adult & Geriatric Care, Co‑occurring Disorders, Psychosis Treatment, and Competency Restoration.
Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 4:30 PM with participation in the rotation of On‑Call Administrator and coverage for the Chief Nurse Officer (CNO) as needed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing direction, organization, and supervision to 60+ registered nurses, psychiatric technicians, and other nursing staff to ensure high‑quality inpatient care on a 24/7 basis.
- Participating in the rotation of On‑Call Administrator and covering for the CNO as needed.
- Overseeing the scheduling/staffing system for Nursing Services to ensure compliance with the approved Staffing Plan and Guidelines.
- Collaborating with clinical treatment members, medical staff, and department heads regarding clinical operations.
- Managing financial operations, including a $16 million budget in collaboration with the CNO.
- Overseeing risk management/performance improvement processes for Nursing Services, including data analysis, root cause analysis, and action plan submission.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency specifications to meet federal, state, and local standards.
- Providing guidance, mentorship, and feedback to House Supervisors and Clinical Care Coordinators to develop management and leadership skills.
- Leading hospital‑wide initiatives related to clinical staff or patient care issues by chairing and organizing committees.
- Initiating and conducting interdisciplinary meetings with treatment staff; participating and leading ad hoc committees as required.
- Monitoring and overseeing each unit budget, ensuring supply availability, equipment replacement, and new purchases for efficient unit operations.
- Conducting or participating in national‑level research and presenting findings.
- Managing Human Resources activities of the department, including recruiting, hiring, termination, training, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Certification/
Skills:
- Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) – required.
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing school – required.
Minimum Experience:
- 5 years of nursing experience (psychiatric setting highly preferred).
Prior Supervisory Experience Preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
