At Houston Methodist, the Night Manager Nursing position is responsible for 24‑hour comprehensive operational responsibility for the delivery and quality of patient care provided in the designated areas of responsibility. This registered nurse position fosters interdepartmental/interprofessional collaboration. The Manager, Nursing participates in committees, representing unit and nursing in a positive manner. The position assists with developing and implementing performance initiatives, ensuring optimal patient safety, outcomes and customer satisfaction.
The role demonstrates leadership qualities and critical thinking through self‑direction, initiative, effective interpersonal and communication skills.

ResponsibilitiesManaging the daily work activities of unit/department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence and efficiency while assisting management in achieving strategic and operational objectives.
Providing guidance to staff; responsible for staffing, budget compliance, contributing to staffing decisions such as hiring and termination, coaching and counseling employees on work related performance, and assisting in policy and procedure development.
Implementing training, monitoring and operations initiatives that secure compliance with ethical and legal business practices and accreditation/regulatory/government regulations.
Qualifications Education- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing
- Three years’ experience in nursing, one year in a progressive leadership role in healthcare; for HM internal, two years’ experience in nursing which includes HM performance that demonstrates leadership abilities, i.e., charge nurse responsibilities
- RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure – Texas Board of Nursing PVS Compact Licensure – Must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency)
- BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association
- Magnet – ANCC Recognized Leadership Certification (ANCC)
- Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
- Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary for essential functions, especially with regard to patient or employee safety or security
- Effective communication through a variety of channels with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer‑service focus and application of positive language principles; engages the recipient(s) and helps them understand and retain the message
- Interpersonal skills that build trust in organization’s intentions
- Use appropriate interpersonal styles and techniques to gain acceptance of ideas or plans; modify own behavior to accommodate tasks, situations, and individuals involved
