Job DescriptionThe Oncology Nurse Manager working in our UT Physicians Women’s Center (Southeast) acts as the primary clinical liaison for nursing staff, providing expert guidance, answering questions, coordinating onboarding, and delivering nurse training. Serving as both role model and mentor, this leader promotes a culture of compassion, innovation, and excellence in oncology nursing. With advanced clinical expertise, this role manages complex patient cases independently, ensures best practices across the team, mentors newer nurses, and actively contributes to developing clinical policies and procedures.
The position involves advanced patient care coordination, including the creation of individualized treatment plans, managing high‑acuity cases, and leading quality improvement initiatives.

Full‑Time, Mon‑Fri
- Provides oversight of nursing staff and acts as the central subject matter expert, provides guidance and addresses questions.
- Follows strict guidelines as provided by the package insert for mixing, storing, and administering chemotherapy drugs and other cancer treatments under the direction of the supervising provider, uses protective equipment and follows hazardous material disposal regulations.
- Assesses patients’ health before, during and after chemotherapy treatments; monitors for side effects, complications, and signs of infection; documents patient responses to treatments; performs on‑site and telephone triage using best practice guidelines and documentation to ensure patients receive the appropriate level of care in the right setting at the right time by the right caregiver using the approved equipment and supplies.
- Works closely with the supervising physicians and other healthcare professionals to create and implement treatment plans; communicates any changes in patient conditions to the medical team; assists in coordinating supportive care services like nutritional counseling, social services and palliative care.
- Maintains accurate patient records, including treatment plans, progress and side effects; follows institutional policies, USP 797 & 800 safety standards; respects privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.
- Acts as a patient and healthcare advocate by maintaining a safe environment and promoting quality healthcare services; adheres to standards of practice for professional nursing; stays updated on advancements in chemotherapy treatments and oncology nursing best practices; participates in continuing education, certifications and training programs; partners with providers to establish and monitor clinical competencies and coordinates continuing education for nursing staff;
oversees onboarding of new nurses ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver safe and effective patient care; evaluates directly or assists other providers in evaluating nursing staff. - Educates patients and their families about chemotherapy, side effects, and self‑care at home; provides emotional support and counseling to patients coping with cancer; teaches strategies for managing treatment‑related symptoms; assists clinical and administrative staff in formulating goals and objectives to meet both qualitative and quantitative outcomes.
- Analyzes and interprets quality reports to identify trends, ensure compliance, and drive continuous improvement in patient care and operational performance of nursing staff.
- Operates and maintains IV infusion pumps and other chemotherapy delivery systems; ensures proper sterilization and safety measures are followed; maintains the COLA certification within the laboratory that enables the clinic to function by running CBCs prior to treatment where applicable.
