Nurse Practitioner Acute Care PRN – Critical Care (Medical Center)

Join Houston Methodist as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (PRN) in our Critical Care unit. This position involves providing comprehensive patient care—including diagnosis, treatment, medication management, and patient education—in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role is governed by the Texas Nurse Practice Act and follows the Houston Methodist Professional Practice Model.

Essential Functions
  • Perform patient evaluations, develop and implement care plans, and coordinate with physicians and the interprofessional team.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications as appropriate.
  • Lead and support quality improvement initiatives, including safety protocols, outcome monitoring, and evidence‑based practices.
  • Assist in administrative responsibilities such as documentation, resource allocation, and financial targets.
Qualifications
  • Education
    :
    Master’s degree or higher from an accredited nursing school and completion of an accredited Advanced Practice Nurse program.
  • Experience
    :
    Two years of registered nurse or advanced practice clinical experience.
  • Licenses & Certifications (Required):
    • Registered Nurse – Texas state licensure.
    • APRN Acute Care Texas state license.
    • ANCC‑recognized Acute‑Care Practitioner certification.
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) or Instructor certification.
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or Instructor certification.
    • Prescriptive Authority – Texas Board of Nursing.
    • DEA Narcotics License.
  • Skills and Abilities
    :
    • Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and leadership capabilities.
    • Proficiency in English communication for patient safety.
    • Effective interpersonal communication and customer‑service orientation.
    • Management of multiple priorities with sound judgment.
    • Ability to function independently under physician supervision.
Additional Requirements
  • On‑Call:
    May be required during emergencies.
  • Travel:
    Travel within the Houston Metropolitan area may be required; travel outside the area is not required.
  • Attire:
    Scrubs, business professional, or department‑approved attire as needed.
