The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is a patient care provider. The LVN performs a variety of nursing functions and closely assesses patients for changes in medical or nursing status under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and Medical Director. The LVN will be responsible for supervision and documentation of the patients' medical/nursing needs until discharge. Among these duties are observing and documenting patients' behavior, modeling appropriate behavior for the patient, interacting with the patient, providing training to staff in caring for the patient, ensuring patient safety, and reinforcing treatment plans and Moody Neuro policies.
The LVN communicates to Registered Nurse, Medical Director, Program Director, and families regarding the patients' medical care. The LVN will provide direct billable education to patients regarding their specific medical needs: i.e., diabetes, medical hygiene, medication management, healthy living, and healthy food choices, etc. The LVN will also provide health related educational support for the clinical and therapeutic assistants as required by CARF, CRS and HHSC.
The LVN will also provide clinical and therapeutic assistant competencies related to health care. The LVN will uphold the mission, philosophy, and goal of the organization while maintaining strict confidentiality of personnel and client data and information in the performance of assigned duties.
- Specified nursing services as needed by Moody Neuro patients.
- Assist in emergency situations, provide first aid during illness or injury, adhering to triage procedures.
- Educate all staff on health and safety policies, maintain documentation.
- Read, understand, and ensure compliance with CARF, HHSC, CRS, and Moody Neuro regulations.
- Monitor patient self‑administration of medications and document ability.
- Provide patient education in individual or group setting weekly.
- Serve as a role model at all times for patients and residential staff.
- Attend in‑services, workshops, staff meetings, and seminars as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality of both patient and staff issues.
- Provide a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
- Admission/Discharge duties in accordance with Moody Neuro organizational policies and accrediting bodies.
- Assist in training of residential staff as directed.
- Ensure medical documentation in accordance with licensing agencies.
- Schedule and administer initial TB Test with new employees and patients. Document results and administer annually.
- Conduct New Hire drug screening or incident follow-up drug screening as instructed by the Program Director.
- Schedule outside medical appointments assigned by the Program Director while patients are admitted.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintain medical documentation, medication monitoring sheets, incident reports, and medical consults.
- Act as liaison between RN, Medical Director, Program Director, and staff related to health and nursing issues.
- Maintain nursing, health, and safety procedures according to Moody Neuro policies.
- Maintain appropriate on‑call records for timecard.
- Current Texas state license as an LVN.
- Knowledge of TBI and related syndromes.
- Ability to work well with others in a clinical setting.
- Ability to stimulate and motivate persons with motivation problems.
- Knowledge of social customs and responsibilities.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility, innovation, and good judgment.
- Ability to receive and follow instructions accurately.
- Knowledge of philosophical and ethical considerations in rehabilitation practice.
- Pass CPR certification required.
- Communicate accurate and pertinent information through documentation.
- Execute emergency procedures for fire drills, evacuation, and triage.
