Nurse Practitioner Acute Care - Cardiology (Baytown)

Come lead with us at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group. The Nurse Practitioner Acute Care (NP) position functions as a licensed registered nurse and care provider to provide all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatment, and consultation while maintaining and promoting patient health. The role may work in both inpatient and outpatient situations and operates under the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and as part of a treatment team.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates leadership as a clinical resource, interprofessional consultant, and patient advocate; identifies staff development opportunities, provides coaching.
  • Communicates organizational information and administrative/clinical practice respectfully; advocates for balanced workload and promotes teamwork.
  • Collaborates with the interprofessional healthcare team to manage and coordinate patient care; advocates on behalf of patients and families.
  • Serves as a preceptor for Nurse Practitioner students and medical residents; promotes healthy workplace relationships.
Service Essential Functions
  • Coordinates appropriate, timely patient care under physician supervision for a defined patient population, focusing on identified outcomes.
  • Coordinates patient care between providers and participates in interprofessional rounds.
  • Helps drive improvement of patient satisfaction through accountability to service standards.
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
  • Functions as a quality care provider, coordinating and promoting patient health; assists team in developing and implementing protocols for safety.
  • Conducts health assessments and develops plans of care, initiating appropriate interventions and evaluating outcomes.
  • Performs invasive, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures as authorized by licensure.
  • Leads outcome, quality, and safety improvement activities aligned with organizational goals.
Finance Essential Functions
  • Implements departmental strategies to achieve financial targets; mentors others through documentation and efficiency.
  • Maintains awareness of resource allocation based on patient needs and staff competencies.
Growth/Innovation Essential Functions
  • Promotes quality healthcare through integration of current research into practice and participation in evidence‑based activities.
  • Provides education and coaching to staff; remains current through ongoing development plans.
Education

Master's degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing; graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

Work Experience

At least two years of registered nurse, advanced practice, or nursing practitioner clinical experience.

Licenses and Certifications – Required
  • Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure; must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days.
  • APRN Acute Care state license.
  • Magnet ANCC‑recognized Acute‑Care practitioner certification.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
  • Prescriptive Authority with Texas Board of Nursing.
  • DEA narcotics license within 6 months.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates skills and competencies through assessments and performance evaluations.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary for patient safety.
  • Effectively communicates with patients, physicians, families, and co‑workers.
  • Highly developed assessment, documentation, leadership, and analytical skills.
  • Uses therapeutic communication to establish relationships and collaborate on care plans.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills, prioritizing multiple tasks.
  • Exercises independent judgment in interactions with physicians and teams.
  • Proficient time‑management and critical‑thinking skills.
