Position Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons in the retirement community and health center.

Responsibilities:

  • Explains procedures and treatments to residents to gain cooperation, understanding, and alleviate apprehension.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques/standards of practice, documents appropriately in the electronic medical record. Maintains knowledge of medications' common actions, usual dosages, and side effects.
  • Prepares equipment and aids physicians during examinations and/or treatments of residents.
  • Maintains awareness of residents' comfort and safety needs.
  • Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess the patient's condition.
  • Responds to life-saving situations based on nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Observes residents and documents accordingly in the electronic medical record.
  • Conducts investigations of resident incidents/accidents and provides immediate interventions as needed.
  • Assists the RN in participating in the care plan process.
  • Conducts community-required admission and routine observations, documenting in the electronic medical record.
  • Notifies the resident’s physician and representative of changes in condition. Notifies supervisor of significant changes when warranted.
  • Provides resident family education/teaching and documents accordingly in the clinical record.
  • Provides support with activities of daily living (ADL) as needed.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
