Oncology Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) - Breast Medical Oncology
Seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team in Breast Medical Oncology. This department seeks to improve the survival of breast cancer patients, provide new knowledge through research, patient‑centered clinical care, cancer prevention, and education and outreach with the ultimate goal of eliminating breast cancer.

- Provide quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development and other identified needs.
- Conduct health assessment including medical history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment.
- Conduct inpatient service daily rounds on each patient and report findings to the attending physician.
- Monitor and review findings of laboratory, clinical, radiographic and procedural data on ambulatory or inpatient service and develop an appropriate plan of care.
- Prevent, minimize, and manage symptoms, toxicities, health abnormalities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with physician and other allied personnel.
- Schedule consultation, diagnostic procedures and facilitate coordination with the attending physician.
- Write prescriptions (if eligible) as needed.
- Provide triage in ambulatory setting for consistent patient care.
- Write chemotherapy orders under the supervision of a physician or verify orders written by a physician.
- Provide general health education to the patient and his/her family.
- Participate in formal and informal instruction of nursing students, professional nurses and other health professionals.
- Keep current by attending continuing education programs related to the clinical area.
- Assist in development of education material for use by staff or patient.
- Attend departmental meetings pertinent to the Advanced Practice Provider.
- Contribute to research efforts of the department in accrual to protocols or trials.
- Collaborate with medical, nursing and other disciplines regarding plan of care, follow‑up and evaluation.
- Recommend therapeutic measures for relief of symptoms.
- Initiate or collaborate in research projects.
- Assist with the implementation of registered departmental research protocols.
Required:
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003.
- Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
- For Physician Assistant applicants:
Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for those who graduated prior to 2013.
Preferred:
- At least 2 years of experience in an Advanced Practice Provider role.
- Oncology experience.
Required (APRN):
- Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC‑AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP).
