The Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) assesses, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates education activities, competency validation, clinical care, programs, and initiatives for the assigned department/units. The CRN demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and skills, effective teaching/education skills, and supports system‑level nursing clinical and education initiatives. The CRN provides leadership within the department, including quality improvement activities, effective human resources management, and resource accountability.
The CRN exemplifies professionalism, promotes a customer‑friendly environment, and fosters an environment that cultivates exemplary patient care. As a member of the nursing leadership team, the CRN establishes a setting that supports professional nursing practice and empowers nurses to provide safe, effective, compassionate, and efficient care in collaboration with all health‑care disciplines. The CRN facilitates enculturation of the Correctional Health Nursing Professional Practice Model (NPPM) and supports compliance with standards established by professional nursing organizations, regulatory agencies, and institutional policies and procedures.
The CRN holds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior, mentors others, and participates in nursing organizations, research, and community activities.
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a Master’s degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field is required.
- Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Texas.
- Related specialty certification or certification as a nursing professional development specialist (NPD‑BC) required within two years of employment.
- Basic Life Support from a hospital‑based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.
- Other certificates as required by unit/service.
- Five (5) years of work experience in a related clinical area of practice is required.
- Two (2) years of related clinical/leadership experience is required.
- Above‑average verbal (heavy public contact) and exceptional verbal (public speaking).
