Townsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical Inpatient Unit) to join our team, at our
Houston
, TX location! (77072).

Responsibilities
  • Admit patients to the clinical area and provide nursing care to medical and post-operative patients, developing a nursing care plan tailored to the individual patient.
  • Staffing is based on a teamwork concept; cross-training in other clinical areas may occur and duties may be performed outside normal scope as staffing and patient needs change.
  • Ensure the pre-operative, post-operative, observation/inpatient area maintains a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients; give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order.
  • Assist with patient admission to the unit and prepare for scheduled procedures.
  • Make initial assessments and determine nursing needs; communicate additional discharge needs when applicable (transportation, durable medical equipment).
  • Explain nursing procedures and actions to help reduce patient anxiety.
  • Identify patient’s physical and mental status.
  • Monitor the patient’s medical condition and report significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist.
  • Assure surgical consent, pre-operative test results, and History and Physical are in the medical record prior to proposed procedure.
  • Make pre-op and post-op calls to patients.
  • Report important health history facts to the House Supervisor and/or physician.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and family members as necessary.
  • Document patient care delivered accurately in the medical record and implement doctor’s orders in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Educate patients and family; develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, visitors, and other Center employees.
  • Document concisely and accurately on all records or documents per policy; maintain clinical competencies and demonstrate clinical problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Make decisions using an evidence-based analytical approach and plan for routine events while anticipating, preventing, and evaluating emergent situations.
  • Complete patient care responsibilities in a timely manner with accurate documentation; adapt to downtime and support team members as needed.
  • Protect patient and family privacy rights and maintain confidentiality of patient records in accordance with policy, procedure, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Follow all safety rules, report accidents promptly, correct hazards, and communicate identified hazards to peers and management.
  • Maintain established Center/Departmental policies and procedures and adhere to company standards of business conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and collaborate with all clinical staff to ensure care needs are met and orders are carried out accurately, timely, and completely.

  • Knowledge of computer and relevant software applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
  • Ability to stay composed under pressure, manage emotions, and avoid aggressive behavior in difficult situations.
  • Ability to follow, plan, and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition.
  • Compliance with facility policies and procedures and continuing education programs.
  • Practice within the Texas Nurse Practice Act and accept responsibility and accountability for actions.
  • Effective communication to collaborate with the nursing team.
  • Ability to respond quickly when priorities or patient conditions change; high stress tolerance.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to change and variety in the workplace.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain organized systems for timely patient flow.
