Vets Without Borders Ireland (VWBI) is a non‑profit organisation working with small‑scale livestock farmers, their families, and communities across the Global South. By improving livestock husbandry, health, and welfare, VWBI supports sustainable livelihoods, food security, and resilient communities.
Membership of the Board of Vets Without Borders Ireland offers a meaningful opportunity to help guide and strengthen the governance of a unique charity operating internationally.
The RoleVWBI is seeking to appoint a Board Member with a Governance background. This individual will play a key role in supporting the board’s effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and organisational accountability, while contributing to the overall strategic direction of the organisation. This is a non‑executive, strategic role with a focus on governance oversight rather than operational management.
Key Responsibilities- Contribute actively to board governance, strategy, and decision‑making
- Support the development, review, and implementation of robust governance frameworks, policies, and procedures
- Provide oversight and guidance on regulatory, compliance, and fiduciary responsibilities, including charity governance requirements
- Promote best practice in board effectiveness, risk management, and accountability
- Support the board in evaluating organisational performance against strategic objectives
- Contribute to succession planning, board development, and governance reviews
- Act in the best interests of VWBI and uphold high standards of integrity and transparency
Attendance at approximately five board meetings per year. Typically one in‑person meeting annually, with remaining meetings held online in the evenings. Willingness to contribute time and expertise between meetings, where appropriate. Board positions are voluntary and unpaid.

- Experience developing or overseeing governance frameworks, policies, and controls
- Excellent judgement, attention to detail, and a high standard of integrity
- Confidence to challenge constructively and support continuous improvement
Previous board experience is desirable but not essential.
