Executive Director, Pride Chorus Houston Overview
Role: Executive Director
Reports to: Board of Directors
Purpose of Position: To manage and oversee all non-artistic operations to forward the mission of the organization.
Time Commitment: 30+ hours/week. Flexible hours, some evenings and weekends are required for chorus events.
Location: This role must be based in Houston. Flexible remote schedule, attendance at local events required.
Salary: Base salary of $40,000 – $50,000, along with competitive incentive compensation based on fundraising performance. The bonus structure is designed to reward successful fundraising outcomes while aligning with the organization’s mission.
Role SummaryThe Executive Director leads all non-artistic operations of Pride Chorus Houston, advancing its mission through fundraising, marketing, financial stewardship, operations, and community engagement. Working closely with the Board and Artistic Director, this role ensures organizational sustainability, strong community presence, and exceptional experiences for members, patrons, and the community.
Responsibilities1. Promote the Chorus’ focus on its mission
Work with the Pride Chorus Houston (Chorus), the Board, the Artistic Director, and volunteers to promote a positive atmosphere of community within the organization.
Attend planned chorus social functions, fundraisers, and/or events.
Review and conform to the Chorus’s Core Values and represent the chorus in the community.
2. Oversee marketing and public relations activities for the Chorus
Develop and execute comprehensive marketing plan for the Chorus to grow audiences and community reach.
Work in partnership with the Artistic Director to communicate and promote the mission and work of the Chorus to the public through media, public speaking engagements.
Cultivate media relationships with local and statewide organizations.
3. Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising program
Take a direct leadership role in the Chorus’s fund development program, overseeing and organizing fundraising efforts.
Manage annual gala and grant writing campaigns.
Develop and execute donor stewardship programs and best practices to retain donors and encourage repeat engagement.
4. Develop, monitor, maintain fiscal responsibility standards for the Chorus
Ensure appropriate financial controls are in place and adhered to ensure legal and ethical use of nonprofit funds.
Ensure timely and accurate bookkeeping and accounting in accordance with accepted nonprofit accounting principles and ensure required tax filings are timely made.
Oversee chorus execution of contracts and transactions, working with appropriate legal or accounting professionals as needed.
5. Direct and manage the Chorus’s operations, management, and administration
Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure that patrons, members, and community members always have an exceptional experience when they interact with the chorus.
In partnership with the Artistic Director, plan and execute concerts, events, and other Chorus activities, including programming, artist engagement, celebrations, and fundraisers as necessary.
Effectively mobilize and utilize volunteers as necessary in support of the Chorus’s programs and activities.
6. Develop and execute the Chorus’s community outreach and education activities.
Develop community partnerships with dirverse arts, education, and cultural organizations to advance the Chorus’s outreach activities.
Represent the Chorus at various community events in a manner that enhances its reputation and standing in the LGBTQ+ and greater communities.
Work with the Artistic Director to identify opportunities for community education initiatives.
7. Support the Board in its oversight and governance functions
Attend Board meetings and provide a regular report to the Board. Maintain regular communications with the Board President and the Board of Directors.
Provide timely, relevant, and concise information to the Board so it may fulfill its policy and oversight responsibilities.
