Leadership Giving Assistant Director
The Leadership Giving Assistant Director works with new or existing donors, or with individuals qualified by prospect research, to establish or strengthen an individual's relationship with UTHealth Houston through suitable engagement and stewardship activities. This role also involves discovering areas of interest and securing commitments in the $1,000-$99,000 range. The Director develops effective internal and external partnerships to expand the donor base with the ultimate objective of growing the major gift donor pipeline through upgrades.
Working collaboratively with development colleagues, prospect researchers, faculty, and volunteers, the Assistant Director helps identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors who give $1,000 or more annually (or as determined by prospect research)—supporting the pipeline of future major gift prospects and ensuring long‑term philanthropic success.
- Collaborates with prospect researchers, development staff, faculty, and volunteers to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects to feed the giving pipeline, matching interests with institutional priorities.
- Manages a large rotating caseload of donors giving between $1,000 and $99,999, actively stewarding them through ongoing stewardship programs and creating new initiatives to retain and renew donors.
- Formulates solicitation strategies for assigned prospects in conjunction with development leadership, coordinating implementation using a tiered one‑to‑many approach, and monitors key metrics such as participation, retention, acquisition, and upgrades.
- Develops effective partnerships across the University, providing partners with appropriate data and content, ensuring adherence to quality standards and timelines, and advancing program strategic plans and goals.
- Researches and stays current on philanthropy trends, suggesting new initiatives or improvements to enhance the leadership giving program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with development staff and volunteers to cultivate and steward prospects, matching interests with institutional priorities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for a large caseload of mid‑level donors, ensuring their needs are met through stewardship and engagement.
- Develop and execute targeted solicitation strategies, reviewing outcomes and refining tactics for continual improvement.
- Build and maintain data-rich relationships across university departments to support the donor pipeline.
- Remain informed about trends in philanthropy and leverage that knowledge to innovate within the leadership giving program.

Bachelor’s Degree required; equivalency may be considered based on experience.
Minimum ExperienceAt least three (3) years of related experience in fundraising or an equivalent transferable marketing background, preferably in higher education, health care, or nonprofit organizations.
Physical RequirementsExerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or a negligible amount constantly.
Security Sensitive- Position is security‑sensitive pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094, with additional statutory obligations regarding critical infrastructure.
