Systems Engineer, Electrical Engineering
We are seeking an EVA and Human Surface Mobility Program (EHP) Cross Program Integrator at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX.
What You’ll Do:
You will be supporting the JSC Health and Medical Technical Authority (HMTA). The purpose of the JSC HMTA is to execute the Technical Authority governance model for human space flight for the NASA Headquarters Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer (OCHMO). The focus of HMTA in human spaceflight programs is on the Program's vehicle design implementation of HMTA Standards (NASA-STD-3001), ensuring that each human spaceflight Program defines the appropriate applicability, tailoring, and verification approach for NASA-STD-3001, Volumes 1 and 2.
This is accomplished through dedicated and cross-matrixed Human Health and Performance (HH&P) and integration personnel. This highly diverse staff develops and approves the applicable set of Program human health and performance requirements and monitors how well they are met, documents issues of unmet or under met requirements, communicates the status of these issues to Human Health and Performance (HH&P) management, Program Medical Officers (PMOs), and Chief Health and Performance Officers (CHPOs), and prepares materials for communicating awareness or escalating issues as needed.
This work is done for all current and emerging NASA human space flight programs, the Human Research Program, and other human-related technology programs. In this role, you will be part of a team of integrators and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who work together to ensure that Artemis Programs are adequately incorporating and implementing NASA HMTA standards from NASA-STD-3001. An Integrator organizes and implements processes that facilitate HH&P and HMTA review of commercial vendor documentation and coordinates discussions and products to help assess vendor implementation of HMTA requirements.
The integrator position coordinates discussion of human system requirements and the associated HH&P topics between SMEs, commercial vendor integration leads, and other stakeholders. EHP Integrators obtain and maintain knowledge of human health and performance requirements including their applicability to EHP and will maintain awareness of commercial vendor implementation of these requirements. As the EHP Cross Program Integrator, you will be expected to perform these functions for the design of extravehicular activity suits and lunar rovers as they integrate with other exploration programs (e.g. Moon to Mars (M2M), Human Landing System (HLS), and Gateway).
This position will more specifically support the EHP HMTA and HHP personnel with communicating, maintaining situational awareness, and preparing related materials that deal with the interfaces of EHP and other exploration programs. This position interfaces with HMTA and JSC HH&P Division personnel, EHP Program and Project personnel, other Program personnel (M2M, HLS, and Gateway), and commercial vendors. Human Systems Integration strategies are implemented to inform the HMTA and efficiently support Human Spaceflight Programs.
Lessons learned while providing support to Human Spaceflight Programs are leveraged to improve HMTA standards and strategic processes.
- Establish and maintain general knowledge of HMTA Standards and commercial vendor implementation of applicable HMTA Standards in extravehicular activity suit and lunar rover designs.
- Identify, communicate, and help coordinate discussion of issues related to HHP that impact the extravehicular activity suits, lunar rovers, or their interfaces.
- Participate in designated meetings as the HMTA/HH&P representative. This includes proactive screening of agendas, engaging appropriate HH&P representatives and/or SMEs as needed, taking notes during meetings, and communicating relevant information to the HMTA/HH&P team.
- Coordinate with HMTA, HH&P Management, HH&P technical SMEs, EHP Program and Project personnel, and commercial vendors.
- Coordinate and participate in Program and Project document and design reviews, which includes identifying ways to streamline processes and issues that may impact completion of tasks.
- Develop requirements mapping from HMTA standards to Program and Project documents and corresponding gap analysis.
- Participate in HMTA meetings, NASA Human Spaceflight Program meetings, HH&P meetings, and internal team meetings; develop and deliver presentations as necessary.
- Be responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies, and procedures.
- A bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field.
- At least 5 years' relevant experience. 8 years plus is preferred.
- Ability to work in Microsoft Office's suite of tools, especially Excel, One Note, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- A knowledge of NASA's Human System Standards (e.g., NASA-STD-3001) and the disciplines within Human Health and Performance is highly desired.
- Demonstrated experience with human systems requirements and verification in human…
