Location: Houston, TX
Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Employment Type: Project-Based with Potential for Permanent Hire
Overtime: Maybe available

Openwork is partnering with a reputable manufacturing company in Houston to hire a Shop Helper / Painter to support daily production operations. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands‑on work in a shop environment and are looking to build experience in a manufacturing setting.

Position OverviewThe Shop Helper / Painter will assist with drilling, painting, material handling, and general shop operations related to bridge weights. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to safely operate shop equipment while supporting the production team.
Key Responsibilities- Use a mag drill with a jig to drill holes in bridge weights.
- Apply paint to bridge weights using paint rollers and brushes
. - Operate a forklift to move pallets and stage materials within the shop.
- Wrap pallets and prepare finished products for shipment.
- Utilize an overhead gantry crane to move bridge weights safely within the facility.
- Assist with general shop cleanup and organization
. - Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment.
- Forklift operating experience required (
forklift evaluation required
). - Ability to operate general shop tools such as hand drills and other basic equipment.
- Ability to lift 45–50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to bend, kneel, and perform detailed painting tasks.
- Painting experience is helpful; training may be provided for the right candidate.
- Comfortable working in an active shop environment.
- Attendance and punctuality are very important for this position.
- Employees must arrive on time and maintain consistent attendance to support production schedules.
- Reliability, teamwork, and safety awareness are essential to success in this role.
- Must be clean‑shaven to ensure proper respirator fit.
- Must be able to wear a respirator for the duration of the shift.
- Must be willing to shower at the end of each shift in accordance with safety protocols.
- Must successfully pass background screenings and drug testing.
