General Plant Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:

The General Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for the preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of plant machinery and equipment to ensure uninterrupted production in a food manufacturing environment. This role supports daily operations by responding quickly to equipment issues and participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and utility systems.
• Diagnose and repair malfunctions in processing, packaging, refrigeration, and facility equipment.
• Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical systems, such as pumps, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, boilers, and HVAC.

Production Support

• Ensure timely equipment setups, changeovers, and repairs to minimize downtime.
• Assist production staff with equipment operation issues and training as needed.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Ensure all equipment meets food safety and regulatory compliance standards.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment logs.
• Monitor parts inventory and request supplies as needed.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify root causes of recurring issues and recommend equipment upgrades or process improvements.
• Support implementation of reliability‑centered maintenance strategies.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in industrial or food manufacturing maintenance preferred.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
• Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, and food safety standards is a plus.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Welding (with a stick or mig), fabrication, or refrigeration certifications are a plus.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying temperatures and conditions.
• Flexibility to work off‑shifts, weekends, or respond to emergencies as needed.
