Job Summary:
The General Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for the preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of plant machinery and equipment to ensure uninterrupted production in a food manufacturing environment. This role supports daily operations by responding quickly to equipment issues and participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and utility systems.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions in processing, packaging, refrigeration, and facility equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical systems, such as pumps, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, boilers, and HVAC.
Production Support
- Ensure timely equipment setups, changeovers, and repairs to minimize downtime.
- Assist production staff with equipment operation issues and training as needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Ensure all equipment meets food safety and regulatory compliance standards.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment logs.
- Monitor parts inventory and request supplies as needed.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify root causes of recurring issues and recommend equipment upgrades or process improvements.
- Support implementation of reliability‑centered maintenance strategies.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in industrial or food manufacturing maintenance preferred.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, and food safety standards is a plus.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Welding (with a stick or mig), fabrication, or refrigeration certifications are a plus.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying temperatures and conditions.
- Flexibility to work off‑shifts, weekends, or respond to emergencies as needed.
- A hands‑on problem solver with attention to detail.
- Reliable, safety‑focused, and self‑motivated.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced production environment.
- A team player with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Must be located within commutable distance to Houston.
