A growing metals manufacturing company in Northeast Houston is seeking a Working Production Supervisor (Team Lead – 2nd Shift) to oversee evening operations and support safety, quality, and productivity across the production floor. This role is designed for a hands-on leader who thrives in an active manufacturing environment and enjoys working directly with their team to solve challenges and keep operations running efficiently.
Reporting to the Senior Production Supervisor, you will take ownership of second shift performance while remaining actively involved in daily production activities. Your leadership will directly impact operational success, employee engagement, and compliance standards.
Schedule & Shift Details- Arrival at 2:00 PM for the daily 2:30 PM production meeting.
- Shift hours: 3:00 PM – 1:30 AM.
- 5–6 days per week.
- Overtime paid after 40 hours.
This is a true working supervisor role. The Team Lead is expected to lead from the production floor, operate equipment as needed, and provide real-time guidance to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations throughout the shift.
Work Environment- Approximately 50% of the shift operating a sit-down propane forklift.
- Roughly 90% of time spent on the production floor.
- About 10% dedicated to administrative tasks and reporting.
- Lead and support second shift production operations, including mill operations, decoiling, roll-up, saw operations, packaging, and scrap handling.
- Enforce Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) policies and ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
- Conduct and document daily forklift, crane, and respirator inspections and maintain all required safety logs.
- Actively participate in production as needed to maintain workflow and meet production targets.
- Coordinate production priorities and schedules with senior leadership.
- Verify completed work meets specifications, measurements, quality standards, and delivery schedules.
- Track attendance, labor utilization, and break compliance.
- Complete accurate daily production and operational reports.
- Identify material shortages, document corrective actions, and submit supply requests.
- Conduct weekly inventory counts and ensure accurate material tracking.
- Adjust staffing levels based on production demands.
- Train, coach, and provide ongoing feedback to team members.
- Support hiring, performance reviews, and employee development.
- Initiate corrective actions in accordance with company policies.
- Maintain housekeeping and safety standards throughout the facility.
- Oversee end-of-shift cleanup, documentation, and facility security.
- Ensure proper scrap segregation and accurate loading practices.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3–5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing or production.
- Sit-down propane forklift experience required.
- Overhead crane experience preferred.
- Ability to wear a respirator.
- Strong leadership, communication, and basic math skills.
- Ability to read a tape measure and communicate effectively in English.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
