Team Lead- 2nd Shift
Location: Northeast Houston, TX
Step into a leadership role where your presence on the production floor truly matters. A growing metals manufacturing company in Northeast Houston is seeking a Working Production Supervisor to lead second shift operations and drive safety, quality, and productivity in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This position is ideal for a hands-on leader who enjoys working alongside their team, solving problems in real time, and taking ownership of daily operations. Reporting to the Senior Production Supervisor, you will play a critical role in ensuring production goals are met while maintaining a strong safety and compliance culture.
Schedule & Shift Details:
- Arrival: 2:00 PM for the daily 2:30 PM production meeting
- Shift Hours: 3:00 PM - 1:30 AM
- Days: 5-6 days per week
- Overtime: Paid after 40 hours
The Production Supervisor leads second shift operations while remaining actively involved in production activities. This is a true working supervisor role, requiring regular equipment operation, floor leadership, and direct engagement with production teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
Work Environment
- Approximately 50% of time operating a sit-down propane forklift.
- Roughly 90% of time spent on the production floor.
- About 10% dedicated to administrative and reporting duties.
Safety, Quality & Compliance:
- Enforce Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) policies.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
- Conduct and document daily forklift and crane inspections.
- Perform respirator inspections and confirm employee compliance.
- Maintain required safety logs and reports.
- Assist with incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Supervise daily production activities including mill operations, decoiling, roll-up, saw. operations, packaging, and scrap handling.
- Step into production roles as needed to maintain workflow.
- Coordinate production priorities with senior leadership.
- Verify completed work meets specifications, measurements, and schedules.
- Track attendance, labor utilization, and break compliance.
- Complete accurate daily production reports.
- Identify material shortages and document corrective actions.
- Conduct weekly inventory counts and submit supply requests.
- Adjust staffing based on production needs.
- Coach, train, and provide feedback to team members.
- Support hiring, performance reviews, and employee development.
- Initiate corrective actions in alignment with company policy.
- Maintain housekeeping and safety standards throughout the facility.
- Oversee end-of-shift cleanup and documentation.
- Secure the facility at shift end.
- Verify proper scrap segregation and loading accuracy.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing or production.
- Sit-down propane forklift experience required.
- Overhead crane experience preferred.
- Ability to wear a respirator.
- Strong leadership, communication, and math skills.
- Ability to read a tape measure and communicate effectively in English.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
- Hands-on leadership with direct operational impact.
