Vessel Welder/Fitter – Piping Technology & Products, Inc.
Position Summary
The Vessel Welder/Fitter is responsible for fitting, aligning, welding, and fabricating pressure vessels and related components in accordance with engineered drawings, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and applicable codes.
Responsibilities- Fit, assemble, and weld pressure vessel components including shells, heads, nozzles, flanges, and supports
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and tolerances
- Perform proper fit‑up for welding, including joint preparation, alignment, and root openings
- Weld vessels using GTAW (TIG), SMAW (Stick), FCAW, and/or GMAW per WPS
- Perform full‑penetration, multi‑pass welds that meet ASME and customer requirements
- Measure, mark, cut, grind, and prepare materials for fabrication
- Maintain preheat and interpass temperature requirements
- Support and pass NDE inspections (RT, UT, MT, PT); perform approved weld repairs
- Verify dimensional accuracy, roundness, and plumbness before and after welding
- Use hand tools, power tools, clamps, strongbacks, fixtures, forklifts, and overhead cranes safely
- Complete travelers, weld logs, and traceability documentation
- Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must pass company‑administered welding and fitting tests
- Must pass company‑administered measuring‑tape skills test
- 3+ years of vessel welding and fitting or heavy fabrication experience
- Proficient in flux‑core and TIG welding
- Familiarity with welding carbon steel, stainless‑steel, and galvanized materials
- Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and teamwork
- Ability to read, write, and interpret fabrication drawings and work instructions in English
- Basic understanding of welding processes
- Organizational skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours)
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. independently
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and manual handling of materials required
- Good hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to tolerate noise, heat, and dust in a manufacturing environment
- Visual acuity to read measuring tools, drawings, and detect quality defects
- Must pass initial and ongoing physical or occupational health screenings
- Must wear required PPE, including steel‑toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection
Manufacturing floor with exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp materials, and moderate to loud noise. May be exposed to hot or cold environments depending on season. Work schedule may include overtime or weekend shifts as needed.
