CNC Programmer – Mills & Lathes (Gibbs
CAM / NX CAM)
📍 Houston, TX | Full-Time | Day Shift
General Plastics & Composites, LP is hiring an experienced CNC Programmer to join our Engineering team in Orem, Utah
. This role focuses on developing, optimizing, and standardizing CNC programs to support safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations.
This position is ideal for a hands-on CNC Programmer who enjoys working closely with the shop floor, improving processes, and programming complex parts for CNC mills and lathes
.
As a CNC Programmer, you will:
- Create and modify 3D models from engineering drawings
- Read and interpret engineering prints, blueprints, and GD&T
- Develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs using Gibbs
CAM and NX CAM - Generate and edit G-code for CNC mills and CNC lathes
- Design machining processes including tooling selection, fixturing, and machining strategies
- Standardize machining practices to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost
- Support shop floor operations by:
- Monitoring first articles
- Assisting with setups and tooling
- Troubleshooting machining and programming issues
- Research and implement new machining methods, tooling, and process improvements
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce setup time and non-conformances
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams
- Maintain a safe work environment and follow all company policies
CNC Programming & CAM
- Strong experience with GibbsCAM and NX CAM
- Expert-level G-code and M-code knowledge
- Ability to adjust speeds, feeds, tooling, and machining strategies
- CNC program creation, editing, and optimization
- CNC mills and CNC lathes
- Live-tooling lathes
- 4-axis CNC mills
- Fanuc and Mitsubishi controls
- Strong understanding of GD&T
- Ability to interpret engineering prints and technical specifications
- Experience supporting first-article inspections and production readiness
- 5+ years of CNC programming or related manufacturing experience
- Advanced CAD/CAM skills including model manipulation and machine template generation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with shop floor teams
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing environments preferred
- High attention to detail and process consistency
