CNC Machinist (Machinist II) – CNC Mills, Lathes & Waterjet
📍 Houston, TX | Full-Time | Day Shift (6:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
General Plastics & Composites, LP is hiring an experienced CNC Machinist (Machinist II) to join our Flex Machining department in Orem, Utah
. This is a mid‑level CNC machining role ideal for a machinist with strong setup experience across CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual machines, and waterjet equipment
.

As a CNC Machinist II, you will:
- Set up and operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual lathes, and waterjet machines
- Perform machining for production parts and engineering / prototype work
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and job routers
- Support assembly operations with precision‑machined components
- Inspect parts using precision measuring tools to ensure tight tolerances
- Perform preventive maintenance per PM schedules
- Inspect machines for wear, damage, and safety concerns
- Train incoming CNC Operators and Setup Technicians
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all engineering instructions, SOPs, and safety procedures
Candidates should have working knowledge of:
- CNC machining principles and setup procedures
- CNC programming fundamentals (editing and basic program creation)
- GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Machine fixturing and tooling selection
- Machine safety and lubrication practices
Measurement & Inspection Tools:
- Micrometers (OD & )
- Calipers
- Bore gauges
- Height gauges & micro‑height gauges
- Optical comparator
- Depth gauges
- Protractors
- Mold inspection tools
- Gauge calibration verification
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience
- Experience with CNC mills and lathes required
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
- Strong math skills and ability to use handheld measuring tools
- High school diploma or GED required
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong teamwork, reliability, and attendance
Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs
; occasional lifting up to 100 lbs with assistance - Work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and machining fluids
- Comfortable machining a wide range of materials, including:
- Plastics
- Fiberglass composites
- Metals and alloys
- Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Schedule: Monday – Friday
