Position: Production Superintendent Job

Overview

Arkema Inc. is actively recruiting for a Production Superintendent to support our Houston facility. At Arkema, the position reports directly to the Houston Operations Manager. The individual provides direct supervision to the Shift Supervisors and the Production Maintenance Coordinator and has overall responsibility for all Operations Shift Teams consisting of Process Operators.

The Production Superintendent has overall responsibility for meeting daily S&OP demand by ensuring the plant operates according to daily staff operating notes, managing Operations personnel, ensuring safety policies and practices are followed, proposing and implementing improvements where necessary, and ensuring coordination between Maintenance and Production personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain HESQ compliance as the top priority: ensure all policies, procedures and processes are followed by all shift teams (SWP, MOC, Atlas, EDMS, Shift Change, My Learning). Auditing is a key aspect in driving the results.
  • Participate in and support MOC, PSSR, Startup Permits, and PHA activities for the Houston site.
  • Ensure that all incidents are reported and operating procedures are followed, updated, and created as needed.
  • Support Safe Work Permitting process (review, approve, audits, etc.).
  • Demonstrate commitment to all HESQ matters through high visibility and actions.
  • Deliver planned production to meet customer demand: drive operating disciplines (complete shift handoffs, logbook write-ups, procedures usage, training).
  • Collaborate with Supervisors to define required staffing for all activities and ensure scheduling and attendance activities comply with Arkema policies.
  • Coordinate activities between shift teams and day staff technical support; communicate plant status using logbook, email, and verbal updates.
  • Lead and develop the Operations Shift Teams to a high level of performance: oversee performance management processes for all Operators on shift and support training and development for all shift teams.
  • Coach Supervisors via periodic meetings, in-house training, and outside learning; serve as backup to the Operations Manager in their absence with duties including communicating plant status and ensuring continued input to S&OP.
  • Review and approve purchase requisitions, safety variances, and environmental reports within delegation of authority.
Required Education/Qualifications/Work experience
  • BS in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university is preferred
  • 7+ years of relevant technical and manufacturing experience
  • Prefer a minimum 3 years’ experience leading a team within a technical and/or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot chemical processing to achieve production goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills to communicate with hourly workforce, business leaders, customers, and the company’s technical organization
  • Experience managing direct/indirect reports is a plus
  • Strong judgment and problem analysis skills with tolerance for stress; ability to troubleshoot chemical process operations
  • Highly motivated team player able to work at a fast pace
  • Ability to determine production and volume targets based on sales forecast, equipment limitations, inventory space, maintenance, inspection activities, and operating budget
  • Identify and attain production goals to meet customer needs with safety and environmental requirements
  • Ensure adequate technical support is available and that process improvements are made
  • Ensure proposed improvements meet safety and environmental requirements
  • Develop, train, and coach staff to advance their roles
