SummaryThe Material Handler is responsible for safely handling and staging material for production at the paint line, preparing necessary materials for packaging of finished coils, ensuring finished coils are properly identified with a coil identification ticket, and storing them in a designated location. This is a night shift position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Prepare materials to be used for packaging and shipping of finished coils.
- Package finished coils in a safe manner and move them to a designated location for finished goods.
- Verify that finished goods (coils) are properly identified with a ticket prior to moving them to storage.
- Verify that finished goods (coils) are not damaged or visibly non‑conforming prior to storage.
- Quarantine non‑conforming material (using the HFI process) and notify Quality Control when non‑conforming conditions exist.
- Understand and comply with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System.
- Communicate daily with internal personnel from Maintenance, Operations and Quality Control to help resolve problems and achieve company goals.
The Material Handler is responsible for avoiding environmental impacts such as the release of oils, grease from forklifts and cranes, solvents, paints and various other chemicals. The handler must also recycle all recyclable materials (paper, plastics, cardboard, ink cartridges, etc.). Good housekeeping practices are essential; if a spill occurs, proper cleanup and reporting measures must be taken.
Qualification RequirementsTo perform satisfactorily, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with certain disabilities.
Education and/or ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED. Minimum of two (2) years shipping/receiving experience in a manufacturing environment or warehouse, and minimum of 2 years operating a 25‑ton crane.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and simple correspondence. Ability to communicate information in small group situations.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to solve problems involving multiple variables in a standard situation.
Other Skills & AbilitiesIncumbent required to drive a forklift, operate a 25‑ton overhead crane, and use various power tools. Must have good communication and organizational skills, recognize metal defects, and possess knowledge of shipping procedures and regulations.
Physical DemandsEmployee is regularly required to talk or hear, frequently walk, occasionally stand; sit; bend; stoop; use hands to handle objects; reach; climb or balance. Must be able to lift a minimum weight of 75 pounds. Vision: close‑up, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception.
Work EnvironmentEmployee works near moving mechanical parts, occasionally exposed to extreme cold or heat. Must work in fast‑paced environment. Noise level moderate.
