Position InformationThe Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is seeking one highly motivated individual to join our construction team as a Material/Process III or IV in the North Harris Area Office located at 16803 EASTEX FREEWAY, HUMBLE, TX 77347.
This position will serve as a lead in the North Harris Area Office laboratory, supporting the day‑to‑day testing of materials used in highway and bridge construction and maintenance projects. As a Material/Process III or IV, you will lead and assist with laboratory testing of construction materials, ensure quality and compliance with TxDOT standards, and collaborate with engineers, inspectors, and project teams.

Performs complex material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and at points of supply. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Material/Process Inspector IVPerforms advanced material tests and manufacturing process inspections. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Trains others and may serve as a Lead Worker. Employees at this level are virtually self‑supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Material/Process Inspector III- Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers and field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
- Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.
- Maintains a diary of inspection or test details.
- Maintains and calibrates equipment.
- Observes tests and inspections and reviews reports from other inspectors; performs quality assurance for tests and inspections.
- Performs tests and inspection duties.
- Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports.
- Reviews plans and material specifications for changes in material requirements.
- Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.
