Position SummaryThe Machine Operator sets up and operates metal fabricating machines—brakes, rolls, shears, saws, and presses—to cut, bend, straighten, and form plates, sheets, and structural shapes according to blueprints and specifications.
Reports To: Fabrication Manager
Work Location: 6246 McHard Road, Houston, TX 77053
Position Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and shop orders to determine machine setup, production methods, and operation sequence.
- Select, position, and secure dies, blades, cutters, and fixtures onto machine using rules, squares, shims, templates, hand tools, and built‑in gauges.
- Position and clamp stops, guides, and turntables.
- Adjust controls to set and regulate machining factors such as pressure, depth of ram stroke, roll adjustment, blade angle, and machine speed.
- Locate and mark bending or cutting lines and reference points on the workpiece using instruments such as rule and compass, or by tracing from templates.
- Position the workpiece against stops and guides or align layout marks with dies or cutting blades manually or using a hoist.
- Start the machine and observe operation to reposition the workpiece, change dies, or adjust machine settings for multiple or successive passes.
- May be designated as Sheet‑Metal‑Fabricating‑Machine Operator in certain assignments.
- Prior machine‑operator experience in an industrial setting, especially with Band Saw, 3/8 capacity CNC Metal Shear, brake press, and CNC Plasma table.
- US work authorization is a precondition of employment; we will not consider visa‑sponsor candidates.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
- Ability to work day or evening shift.
- High School diploma, GED, or higher education.
- Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Proficiency using measuring devices: tape measure, micrometer, calipers, square, level, and angle finder.
- Experience with material‑handling equipment.
- Forklift operation capability.
- Knowledge and safety practices for rigging and operating overhead‑style cranes.
- Technical competence in software, hardware, and networks.
