General SummaryThe CNC Machinist is responsible for producing machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine and maintaining equipment and supplies. The position maintains quality and safety standards and documents machining activities. The role reports to the Shop General Manager and has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions- Maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to company/customer safety standards, legal regulations, and by alerting others to potential hazards.
- Performs all duties as assigned and adheres to TEAM’s Core Values.
- Plans machining activities by studying and interpreting work orders and engineering specifications, including geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Alters programs at mills and lathes by entering instructions, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches.
- Calculates machining requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Sets up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; tramming heads and using other methods of work holding.
- Maintains machining specifications by observing, measuring, detecting malfunctions, and troubleshooting processes.
- Adjusts surface feet per minute (SFM) and feed rates to optimize tool life and produce quality parts in a timely manner, replacing worn tools as required by quality assurance specifications.
- Associate’s Degree or training in a relevant technical program preferred.
- Two to three years of related industry experience and/or training preferred.
- Travel requirement: 0%–25%.
- Position is based at a branch or site location.
- Field duties require indoor and outdoor work in a plant atmosphere.
- Interaction with other crew employees, supervisors, and client personnel.
- Work in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels.
- Must wear required safety equipment for personal protection.
- May work at more than one job site in a day and tolerate climate changes.
- May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.
- Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds.
- Must be able to walk and climb except when performing non-field duties.
- Clear speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Adequate vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Personal mobility and physical reflexes to perform office duties and travel to off-site locations.
- Ability to maneuver within a refinery or plant environment, including use of ladders and stairwells.
- Ability to maintain focus and multitask effectively.
- Excellent communication skills.
