Lead Assembler

Powell is an engineered‑to‑order manufacturer of switch gear and electrical equipment for the power generation industry. The Lead Assembler is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the assembly process of products in a manufacturing setting.

Schedule: Monday‑Thursday 2:30 pm–1:00 am (four 10 hour shifts).

Supervision: None

• Train employees and assist in new employee training plans
• Communicate and delegate daily priorities to other employees
• Release jobs to QA/QC
• Write purchase requisitions; order parts of GEXPRO
• Lead/mentor 6S and continuous improvement projects, including Kaizen events
• Lead quality initiatives
• Communicate within the department and with other departments to resolve issues and drive timely completion of jobs
• Review bill of materials and drawings for issues
• Assist in interviews and new‑hire selection
• Identify training needs for the group and help develop an appropriate training plan
• Assist in tracking job efficiency and productivity
• Assist in employee evaluation process
• Communicate pass‑down information
• Lead safety and quality meetings
• Support the enforcement of Powell's policies and safety program

• High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent Diploma (preferred)
• Eight years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of system software (e.g., Oracle, MES, True View) to look up parts and drawings
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs using proper lifting techniques

• Ability to complete complex engineering changes
• Read and understand spec sheets and follow proper use of hardware by spec requirements
• Advanced knowledge of single‑ and three‑line drawings, including symbols
• Ability to identify part discrepancies and properly write HFDs for corrections
• Knowledge of mechanical drawings and designs
• Effectively demonstrates on‑time delivery and the ability to stay focused on goals and responsibilities
• Self‑starter with ability to take on multiple tasks with a drive to succeed
• Challenges the status quo; looks for better or more efficient ways to get results
• Ability to adapt to new ideas, technology, processes or product changes

• Safety‑sensitive position in a temperature‑controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (e.g., safety shoes, hard hats, bump caps, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required
• Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A"‑frame ladders, etc.)
• Working at heights usually no higher than 20 ft in the air on an elevated structure using proper lift equipment and fall protection equipment

• Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders
• Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in direction
• Continuous standing and walking
• Able to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently
• Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50 lbs
• Frequent use of hand tools and power tools
