Production Supervisor

Silgan Plastics is seeking a Production Supervisor to manage production, quality, safety, employee relations and resource control on the production floor in a manufacturing environment.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

• Trains, evaluates, and takes action to maintain a safe work environment with established standards and guidelines.
• Manage the people and processes in manufacturing to effectively produce a quality product.
• Investigates, evaluates and takes appropriate action to maintain quality within established standards and guidelines. Actively pursues opportunities to improve product quality.
• Investigates, evaluates and takes appropriate action to maintain and improve production efficiencies within the established standards or guidelines.
• Investigates, evaluates, reports and takes appropriate action to maintain cooperative relations.
• Investigates, evaluates and takes appropriate action to keep resource usage within established standards or guidelines.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for production, quality, safety, employee relations and resource control on the production floor.
• Train Personnel – Training includes formal and informal methods. Supervisors spend time training and working with people, including accelerating training for new, displaced, or unfamiliar workers.
• Maximize Production Throughout – Efficient use of labor and materials to maximize production.
• Maintain Equipment – Ensure all equipment is in good operating condition and prevent downtime through proactive maintenance.
• Follow Standard Practices – Ensure equipment is set up to proper manufacturing standards for quality production and efficient operation.
• Maximize Floor Time – Spend 60-80% of time on the floor; actively participate in identifying and resolving problems.
• Review Production Reports – Understand reasons for substandard performance and formulate immediate corrective actions.
• Effective Verbal and Written Communications – Communicate production and quality issues clearly to maintain equipment condition, maintenance practices, and timely problem resolution.
• Administer established standards, practices, and procedures. Meet standard efficiency, scrap loss, material usage, and UPH.
• Direct and Assign Work to Employees – Ensure adequate work allocation and effective utilization of staff, including those with discretionary time.
• Know and Apply Written Safety Procedures – Stay updated on safety programs and ensure employees are informed of changes.
• Inspect Work Areas – Daily inspection for unsafe conditions; correct immediately and engage with employees weekly on safety topics.
• Investigate Accidents & Near Misses – Report, investigate, and document all accidents and near misses in a timely manner.
• Enforce Safety Rules – Enforce safe work practices and take appropriate measures with non-compliant employees.
• SPC knowledge and continuous improvement efforts.

EDUCATION:

Preferred: Bachelors degree in a technical discipline

EXPERIENCE:

Preferred: 3-5 years supervision experience in a plastic process facility.

SKILLS:

Required: Microsoft Suite, strong leadership, SPC knowledge.
