The Structural Fitter is responsible for laying out, fitting, aligning, and assembling fabricated metal parts and structures according to drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications. This role ensures all structural components meet dimensional, quality, and safety standards prior to welding and final assembly.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, cut lists, and specifications.
- Lay out, position, and secure parts using measurement tools.
- Fit and tack-weld parts for welding and final assembly.
- Verify alignment and dimensional tolerances.
- Assemble structural components.
- Operate fabrication tools such as grinders, torches, magnetic drills, and overhead cranes.
- Perform in-process inspections.
- Complete documentation, checklists, and work orders.
- Follow safety procedures including PPE, LOTO, and crane protocols.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Structural fitting, pipe fitting, or fabrication experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
- Experience with measuring tools: tape measure, calipers, levels, squares.
- Ability to operate cranes, rigging equipment, and fabrication tools.
- Strong communication, reliability, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment.
- Must be able to pass pre‑employment screenings and background checks
- Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and teamwork.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours)
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. independently
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and manual handling of materials required
- Good hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to tolerate noise, heat, and dust in a manufacturing environment
- Visual acuity to read measuring tools, drawings, and detect quality defects
- Must pass initial and ongoing physical or occupational health screenings (e.g., lifting assessment, vision test, hearing test, etc.)
- Must be able to wear required PPE, including steel‑toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection
Manufacturing floor with exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp materials, and moderate to loud noise. May be exposed to hot or cold environments depending on season. Work schedule may include overtime, weekend shifts, or on‑call schedules as needed.
