Position: Central Market - Perishables Director - Houston
Overview

Job Description

The position serves as a leader and expert in the successful operation of all areas of Production and Sales across various departments:

  • Non-Perishable: grocery, dairy, frozen foods, healthy living, bulk foods, gift baskets
  • Perishable: produce, meat, seafood, floral
  • Food Service: kitchen, cafe, prepared foods, cooking school, bakery, deli, cheese

This role is responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction, partner engagement, and achievement of company objectives, reporting directly to the General Manager.

Responsibilities include:
  • Making employment-related and business decisions using independent judgment, including hiring, promoting, disciplining, and resolving partner matters
  • Managing multiple departments, including merchandising, product mix, costs, and supervising partners through department managers
  • Providing overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and company regulations on product freshness, safety, refrigeration, and sanitation
  • Supervising daily management of departments and merchandising
  • Maintaining vendor relations and communicating expectations
  • Conducting interviews, performance appraisals, and providing partner feedback
  • Training and developing partners
  • Providing excellent customer service
Requirements:
  • Strong supervisory and management skills across all departments
  • Long-term strategic and financial planning abilities
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (1-2 years related experience or training)
  • Proficiency with automated reporting systems (inventory, food cost, scheduling, time & attendance, labor)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to innovate and champion new ideas
