We are looking for an experienced and motivated Payroll Supervisor who will play a critical role overseeing payroll operations to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee compensation. This position will be a part of our Payroll Operations group based in Houston, TX and is responsible for all payroll compliance and payroll processing activities. This role serves as a subject matter expert on payroll compliance, systems, and processes, while leading a team to deliver exceptional service.
Responsibilities- Supervise and mentor the Payroll team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Ensure accurate and timely execution of payroll processing, payments, interfaces, and journal entries.
- Review and approve account reconciliations, equity payments, benefit payments, and payroll support prior to finalization.
- Act as the escalation point for payroll issues and provide expert guidance.
- Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement and implement innovative solutions.
- Optimizes the contribution of the team through coaching, counseling and implements workable solutions to business issues/problems with minimum referral to management.
- Conducts work planning, estimation and prioritization to optimize performance of team and works with Payroll Manager to define standards and reusable approaches for Payroll operations.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Serve as a trusted advisor for payroll-related inquiries and initiatives.
- Provide backup coverage during team absences or peak workload periods.
- Support special projects, as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field preferred; or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising payroll operations.
- Demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
- Positive attitude with a strong team-oriented approach, fostering a culture of support and shared success.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate results under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional ability to analyze complex data, conduct research, and develop actionable solutions.
- Skilled in troubleshooting payroll systems and resolving technical issues efficiently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; ability to leverage advanced functions for reporting and analysis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for clear and effective interaction with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a team and lead initiatives that drive operational excellence.
- Comfortable in dynamic environments, with the flexibility to support multiple groups and shifting priorities.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and take appropriate action.
- Ability to work additional hours as needed to meet deliverables and deadlines.
