- Assist in the operation and coordination of special events, including receiving, reviewing, and processing event applications from public and private sector entities.
- Coordinate all aspects of assigned special events by producing organizations to ensure full compliance with established rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate public right-of-way safety, mobility, and permitting requirements for special events, including street functions, curb lane usage, and parade routes.
- Serve as a liaison with the Mayor’s Office of Special Events personnel and other City departments to support the successful planning and implementation of events.
- Prepare and maintain written work plans, correspondence, reports, and post-event evaluations for assigned events.
- Represent the department on-site at events and at various civic, cultural, and business-related meetings as required.
- Maintain accurate records for all events, coordinate scheduling with relevant entities, and generate reports using computerized systems.
- Drive on City business as required; driving is an essential function of this position.
- Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required to support event operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requires lifting of moderately heavy items weighing up to 40 pounds. May experience long periods of walking and standing on rough surfaces. May be exposed to various weather conditions on outside assignments.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTRequires an Associate degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Management or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTOne year of related work experience is required.
Two years of additional directly related experience may be substituted for the above degree requirement.
A valid Texas Driver's License and complies with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the community
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

SALARY INFORMATIONFactors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate’s qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
