Manager, Project Controls at Commonwealth LNG
Position Summary:
The Manager, Project Controls is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the project controls plan for major Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors, ensuring successful execution across all project phases. This includes managing project schedules, progress tracking/reporting, milestone achievement, cost analysis, and risk assessment in addition to providing accurate, data-driven insights to enhance decision‑making and mitigate potential risks.
Key Accountabilities- Establish and maintain scheduling systems to effectively track progress to report updates.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules using Primavera P6 ensuring accuracy and alignment with project goals.
- Establish work breakdown structures (WBS) and ensure integration within the schedules.
- Monitor and oversee schedule updates no less than twice per month to track progress.
- Review and evaluate schedule quality, critical paths, schedule performance indicators, schedule logic, excessive lags, and schedule resource loading.
- Identify and analyze schedule risks and provide recommendations for mitigations/recovery measures and provide timely feedback to the Project Leadership team.
- Review and approve project reports, including weekly and monthly progress updates and project status.
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring alignment with scope and funding.
- Conduct cost analysis and prepare financial reports for senior management.
- Work with the Project Leadership team implementing cost‑saving strategies.
- Maintain Team month‑end accruals and cost forecasting.
- Track actual costs against forecasts and identify variances.
- Identify and report to the Risk team potential project risks related to cost, schedule, and resources.
- Develop risk mitigation and contingency plans with the Project Leadership team.
- Regularly update risk registers and ensure proactive risk management.
- Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for monitoring project progress and performance.
- Prepare detailed project status reports, dashboards, and presentations for stakeholders.
- Conduct Earned Value Management (EVM) analysis to assess cost and schedule performance.
- Ensure that effective project controls are in place to manage the Contractor/s and contractual deliverables are properly prepared and submitted to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Manage and verify Contractor progress and payment curves, ensuring accurate financial oversight.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, finance teams, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure that schedule and cost data are accurately aligned with contract requirements.
- Work closely with the contracts administration, financial planning teams and other stakeholders to ensure project impacts on schedule and budget are properly analyzed and managed.
- Facilitate/participate in project meetings and workshops to align project objectives and updates.
- Ensure effective communication of project controls data to the Project Leadership and Company Management.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, QS or a related field required.
- 15+ years of experience in Project Controls; 5+ years as a Manager.
- LNG experience required.
- Fabrication Yard.
- Field Construction.
- Proficient with the setup and use of Primavera scheduling tools.
- Strong technical management abilities with effective project management and leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of project execution.
- Strong understanding of Earned Value Measurement Systems;
Rules of Credit and Chart of Account. - Strong knowledge of planning, scheduling, estimating, risk analysis, progress tracking and reporting.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills; collaborative; self‑starter; commitment and dedication through project completion; attention to detail; sound decision‑making; and problem‑solving abilities to analyze data, identify issues, recommend, develop, and implement solutions.
- Ability to manage a varying sized project controls team while also working within a larger project controls organization.
