Transportation Supervisor

Position Purpose

The Transportation Supervisor will lead an hourly team and influence the entire distribution team to complete the work required to run the distribution center in an efficient, safe, and productive manner. The supervisor is responsible for managing a team of 20 to 30 hourly associates, ensuring prompt, efficient, and accurate handling of merchandise, and developing and implementing team goals. Responsibilities include hiring, evaluating, developing, disciplining, and terminating hourly associates.

• 45% Managing Process:
  Executes transportation functions of the facility according to budgetary cost goals, operating standards, and performance metrics. Manages dedicated fleet and one‑way carrier execution. Plans and executes store delivery routes. Partners with outbound operations to meet load schedules. Manages yard, customer service performance, and communication with stores. Analyzes service results, Voice of Customer data, and creates action plans to improve performance.
  
  Evaluates current work methods to identify efficiencies; partners with Operations Manager or AGM to drive solutions.
• 25% Coaching / Developing Associates:
  Guides associates in daily operations, monitors productivity, safety, service, and quality. Trains and provides feedback; performs regular evaluations of associates regarding job performance and task methods. Resolves associate relations issues in the assigned functional area. Handles hiring, compensation, discipline, and termination of hourly associates in the assigned department. Investigates operational errors to determine causes and recommends corrective action.
• 15% Drive Results:
  Manages execution of on‑time service to stores, trailer cube utilization, and financial goals. Reviews daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly metric reporting, including financial analysis, to identify actions needed on negative trends and to improve positive trends. Ensures transportation projects and pilots stay on track with timelines and results.
• 15% Business Planning:
  Coordinates and monitors transportation plans to ensure key performance metrics align with the business plan, including budget and on‑time delivery. Reviews reports and metrics to plan transportation needs. Additional responsibilities:
  Other duties as assigned by Operations Manager, Assistant General Manager, and General Manager.

• Reports to the Operations Manager.
• Accountable for direct supervision of work activities of others, planning, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates. May include supervision of a shift or coordination of multiple work groups. Makes recommendations on selection, termination, performance appraisal, and professional development.

• Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

• Requires intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.

• Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes that may cause discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.

• Must be eighteen years of age or older.
• Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

• Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain or related field.
• Supply Chain Experience.
• Experience with Warehouse Management Systems, Transportation Management Systems.
• 3+ years supervisory experience in a related field.
• Experience with managing a dedicated fleet.
• Flexibility to work various shifts.
• Ability to relocate.

• The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.
