Job Description
Houston Christian (HC) is accepting applications for the position of Director of Business Affairs
. The Director of Business Affairs, under the direction of the Head of School, supervises the financial and facilities transactions and processes for the School. The Director of Business Affairs is the chief financial officer of the School and a principal leader in areas of operations, financial strategy, and policy. The Director of Business Affairs is a member of the Administrative Team and a thought‑partner as well as a hands‑on participative manager leading teams in accounting, financial operations, business planning, human resources, administration, facilities management, risk management, and other operational and administrative services including health services and food services.
This position assists and reports to the Head of School, supervises the Business Office, Facilities, and Clinic teams, and works in collaboration with all administrators, staff, and faculty.
The current position may be split into two roles:
Director of Facilities and Chief Financial Officer. Please submit resume for either role.
- Bachelor’s Degree required, CPA preferred.
- Minimum five years of overall broad financial and operations management experience; experience with not‑for‑profit organizations preferred.
- Ability to translate financial concepts to and effectively collaborate with other administrators in areas of admissions, marketing, fundraising, and education.
- Proficient in basic technology applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel). Google Apps knowledge is beneficial (i.e. Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail).
- Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
- Must be self‑starting and able to multitask. Excellent verbal, visual, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required. A successful track record in setting priorities, keen analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills and sound decision‑making.
- Contribution to the life of the school outside of regular duties is expected.
- Represent the school in a positive light and be a strong spokesperson for the school.
- Exhibits the qualities and characteristics of a mature Christian leader as evidenced by personal integrity, credibility, and commitment to the Mission of the School.
- Daily hours are variable. Office hours are to be 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as duties permit. May be required to work occasionally evenings and weekends.
- This is a full‑time, exempt position. Salary is based upon experience and qualifications and is paid in semi‑monthly installments.
- Fringe benefits include premiums paid for employee’s group hospitalization insurance (less employee‑paid portion), life insurance, social security, and eligibility for retirement plan participation.
- Paid holidays coincide with teachers’ holidays during the school year. Vacation is per Faculty/Staff Handbook and is scheduled and agreed upon between the employee and supervisor.
- Sick leave, personal business, and absence benefits are as per Faculty/Staff Handbook.

ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Business Affairs supervises the financial and facilities transactions and processes for the School. The Director of Business Affairs is the chief financial officer of the School and a principal leader in areas of operations, financial strategy, and policy. With direction and guidance of the Head of School, the Director fulfills responsibilities, serves as a member of the Administrative Team and is a thought‑partner as well as a hands‑on participative manager leading teams of personnel in the areas of accounting, financial operations, business planning, human resources, administration, facilities management, risk management, and other operational and administrative services including health services and food services.
This position assists and reports to the Head of School, supervises the Business Office, facilities, and clinic teams, and works in collaboration with all administrators, staff, and faculty.
