Job ResponsibilitiesOur Cat Heavy Equipment Technician internship is eligible for the Skill Bridge program, a Department of Defense initiative to help transitioning, active-duty service members gain valuable civilian work experience. This program provides professional growth and development of technical skills through mentorship, instructor‑led and computer‑based learning, and on‑the‑job training, preparing participants for a rewarding career with Mustang Cat. As a Cat Heavy Equipment Mechanic, your primary responsibility is to determine the status of services needed for various heavy and light construction equipment and perform the necessary repairs and maintenance to restore the equipment to proper operation.
This includes set‑up, repair, service, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and installation of replacement parts on Caterpillar diesel‑powered heavy equipment.
- Service members participating in this DOD Skill Bridge program will continue receiving their military compensation and benefits, while Mustang Cat provides the civilian training and work experience.
- Upon successful completion, participants will be eligible for continued employment with Mustang Cat.

- Potential Eligibility for Technician Review Program
- Must be within 180 days of transition from military service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard).
- Received Unit Commander (first O‑4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD Skill Bridge Program prior to start of internship.
- Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent. - Open to all qualified transitioning active‑duty U.S. service members, both officer and enlisted, of any rank and branch.
- Proven mechanical background and aptitude.
- Military experience in equipment or diesel maintenance and repair.
- Ability to demonstrate technical, mechanical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Working knowledge of transmissions, undercarriage, track systems, components, and fuel systems with a strong understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Safety‑oriented.
