Groundskeeper & Maintenance – University of Houston

Salary: $15.00/hr – $18.92/hr

Performs general maintenance and grounds keeping for the University of Houston's Wortham House under limited supervision.

• Performs the duties of a maintenance mechanic and groundskeeper for the Wortham House.
• Establishes a preventative maintenance schedule for Wortham House grounds, equipment and facilities.
• Communicates with Wortham House residents and staff to determine needs. Gives updates to Wortham House Coordinator or campus supervisor on work completed and in progress.
• Orders grounds and property maintenance supplies and materials. Maintains adequate inventory levels.
• Identifies pest problems and exterminates and/or recommends control procedures.
• Coordinates gate and entrance codes with the department of Public Safety.
• Performs a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week on-site work at the Wortham House. Other scheduled hours may be at the Wortham House or UH main campus as needed.
• Serves the Wortham House in an on-call capacity as needed.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc., as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED.

Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

Certification/Licensing: Requires a valid Texas Driver's License.

Experience is required with commercial and residential landscaping equipment to include zero turn mowers, self-propelled mower, trimmers, chain saw, blower, edger, trucks and trailers. Experience is preferred with adjusting, maintaining, and repairing irrigation systems.

This position requires extreme attention to detail, a flexible team player, and excellent communication skills. The role involves a high level of customer service with executives, diverse constituents and a varied work schedule (may include evenings and weekends) depending on scheduled events.

The person in this role must be able to communicate fluently in English and be very comfortable with both written and verbal communications, as the person in this role engages with the executives, residents, visitors, staff, guests and vendors.

Due to the security standards for Wortham House, selected candidate will be required to pass criminal background check. All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
