Harris County Sheriff s Office the largest sheriff s office in Texas and the third-largest in the Nation is seeking experienced Texas Peace Officers for Deputy Positions. Join our team of dedicated professionals serving the residents of Harris County!
New requirements
Must be a licensed Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) in good standing and ready to be commissioned upon hire.
Must have a minimum of twelve (12) months of continuous experience as a full-time Peace Officer in a first responder position at any one agency and be currently employed as a first responder; OR, currently commissioned and assigned as an HCSO Reserve Deputy and have completed no less than 1,040 hours in a law enforcement First Responder position with the HCSO Reserve Command.
Valid Texas Driver s License Texas.
Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20 vision, normal color, and peripheral vision.
Correctable normal audible range in both ears.
Must successfully pass the physical abilities test battery (PAT):
Obstacle Course (New) Firearms qualification.
Must pass a thorough background investigation (Criminal background check, fingerprinting, personal interview, etc.)
Must pass a physical and psychological evaluation as required by TCOLE.
Must pass TB skin test and drug screening.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure all their TCOLE Training Mandates are up to date and ready to be commissioned. Out-of-state candidates:

The Harris County Sheriff s Office (HCSO) provides its employees the ability to obtain the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer Certification advancements at no cost through the HCSO Academy.
Citizenship exceptions
Per SB 252, you may be eligible for TCOLE licensure if you have fulfilled all of the following requirements:
- Must be a permanent legal resident
- Must be an honorably discharged veteran from the United States armed forces with at least two years of active service (Must have DD-214 that reflects service time and discharge status)
- Must provide evidence that they have applied for United States Citizenship
