Overview

THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION
This position may end at any time based on the needs of the department. The Crime Stoppers investigator is responsible for processing anonymous crime and fugitive tips, routing information to investigative units, conducting follow-up to determine outcomes, and preparing documentation to support tipster rewards. This position supports fugitive investigations and inter-agency coordination between HCSO, HPD, and other partner agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Interview tipsters, investigate information received, and enter tips into a database.
  • Disseminate information related to fugitives or unsolved crimes to the appropriate warrant team or case investigator(s) for follow-up.
  • Obtain feedback regarding the arrest and/or charging of suspects from case investigators.
  • Ensure tipsters assisting in the charging and/or arrest of suspects are compensated.
  • Prepare reward packets when arrests occur, including documentation and case summaries.
  • Perform additional (work-related) duties and responsibilities as directed by a supervisor.
  • Work cooperatively with multi-agency staff assigned to the Crime Stoppers LED.
Media Officer Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receive and process media requests from investigators.
  • Follow up with investigators and guide them through the media request process.
  • Serve as the Crime Stoppers media liaison at press conferences.
  • Participate in Crime Stoppers speaking engagements and/or community-oriented events.
  • Work cooperatively with law enforcement and non-law enforcement personnel.
  • Perform additional (work-related) duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisors.
Qualifications
  • Must be an honorably retired Peace Officer.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in law enforcement, record management, or a related field.
  • Must have an active TCOLE Peace Officer License.
  • Basic Peace Officer License (minimum).
  • Have all required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training to include any updated classes.
  • Must have a good attendance record.
  • Basic understanding of computers.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) – verbal and written communication.
  • Experience in processing warrants or handling fugitive cases.
  • Experience working in multi-agency or task force environments.
Work Environment

This job operates in a professional environment at the Crime Stoppers building.

Physical Demands

This role is primarily sedentary; however, the ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds is necessary for file handling and basic office functions.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
  • This assignment works within the general operating hours of Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • A fixed weekly schedule (minimum 20 hours, not to exceed 30 hours) will be established upon assignment based on unit needs.
  • Part-time deputies are required to follow standard attendance expectations. Time off must be requested and approved through the chain of command in advance.
Benefits
  • This is a part-time, temporary position without benefits.
Hours
  • A minimum of 20 hours per week with a maximum of 30 hours per week.
  • Hours are based on the needs of the department.
  • Possibly including weekends and holidays.
