O’Melveny has an immediate opening for a Litigation Paralegal in our Houston office. This role supports numerous firm practices through a wide range of litigation-related paralegal responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Maintains and organizes litigation drive to ensure case documents are easily and promptly accessible to all team members.
- Coordinates, reviews and maintains project status tracking charts for matters, including any tasks and deliverable requirements.
- Assists in all phases of discovery, including fact gathering and analysis of documents, document productions, and preparing for depositions and witness interviews.
- Conducts factual research to support attorney projects.
- Performs cite checking and proofreading.
- Coordinates court and agency filings.
- Communicates with clients, witnesses, and other outside parties as requested or approved by attorneys.
- Assists attorneys with preparing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and subpoenas.
- Assists with trial preparation, including maintenance of case calendars, case files, and trial notebooks.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in performing traditional, litigation paralegal functions.
- Experience in the IP/T and/or health care area desirable.
- Experience preparing for and/or attending trial is strongly preferred.
- Ability to perform quality control analysis and report issues with data.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment with attorneys, other staff members and external entities.
- Ability to be a proactive self-starter who understands the details within a much larger context.
- Demonstrates extreme attention to detail.
- Excellent client service skills and ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously in an organized manner and under minimal supervision.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite applications including Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Experience with e-discovery platforms (Relativity, Opus2).
- Flexibility/availability to work overtime as needed.
