Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Manufacturing & Technology business’s Manager of Legal, the Senior Counsel provides legal and commercial advice to business development, project management, and senior leadership regarding Bechtel’s Manufacturing & Technology operations worldwide.
This part‑time telework role requires the incumbent to be located in or near Reston, VA or Houston, TX. At least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project may be required.
Major Responsibilities- Work closely with Business Development and Management to structure, prepare, negotiate, and close transactions for prospects and projects in semiconductors, electric vehicles/batteries, and data centers.
- Advise Manufacturing & Technology Management and project personnel on legal issues during project execution.
- Provide advice and assist in negotiation and settlement of disputed claims with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Advise Business Development and Management on internal protocols and procedures to maintain compliance.
- Under overall supervision of the Manufacturing & Technology Manager of Legal, work independently on transactions, retaining outside counsel as needed.
- Handle complex, unique legal issues requiring creative analysis.
- Juris Doctor (or international equivalent) and 10+ years of relevant legal experience.
- Current bar admission from a U.S. jurisdiction (foreign qualified lawyers also considered).
- Prepared to travel on an "as-needed" basis.
- Minimum 10 years of work experience with Engineering and Construction projects and related contract documents—either at a major law firm or a major Engineering, Procurement and Construction firm.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with personnel at all levels.
- Capability to direct and review the work of junior attorneys.
- Well‑honed advisory, negotiation, and drafting skills.
- High degree of business acumen and strategic approach.
- Experience with semiconductor or data center owners or projects.
- Experience with a variety of commercial contract models, including lump sum, cost‑reimbursable, and GMAX/GMP structures.
- Experience with intellectual property matters is a plus.
