Job Title:
Senior Counsel – Upstream Energy Business

Compensation: $200,000-$220,000 + STI + LTI

Location:
Houston, Texas (4 days a week on-site, half day Fridays)

We are partnered with a publicly traded U.S. energy company with a diversified upstream portfolio across a major U.S. shale region. The business is led by an experienced management team and focuses on disciplined capital allocation, operational efficiency, and long-term value creation.

As the company continues to execute on its strategy, they are seeking to add a Senior Counsel to provide legal support across core operational functions.

The Role

• Act as a legal advisor to operational teams including land, marketing, HSE, and production
• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of upstream agreements, including leases, joint operating agreements, farmouts, surface use agreements, and marketing contracts
• Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal guidance on contractual, regulatory, and compliance matters
• Partner closely with internal stakeholders and senior members of the legal team to support day-to-day operations
• Manage and coordinate external counsel on litigation, regulatory, and other matters as required

The Ideal Profile

• 7+ years of experience as an attorney supporting upstream oil & gas operations
• Strong law firm training; prior in-house experience preferred but not required
• Licensed to practice law in the U.S.; ability to practice in-house in Texas is required
• Commercially minded, proactive, and comfortable working closely with operational teams
• Able to manage competing priorities and balance legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced environment
