Job Description

We are seeking an experienced In-House Property Tax Valuation Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of the Texas Property Tax Code, commercial real estate law, and strong experience representing clients in valuation disputes, protests, and related litigation. This attorney will work closely with a diverse clientele, including commercial property owners, developers, investors, and corporations, providing strategic legal guidance on all aspects of property tax and valuation matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise and represent clients in property tax valuation disputes, administrative hearings, and litigation under the Texas Property Tax Code.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on valuation methodologies, appraisal practices, and property classifications.
  • Negotiate settlements and agreements with appraisal districts, review boards, and taxing authorities to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
  • Draft, review, and revise legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, settlement agreements, and client advisories.
  • Provide counsel on commercial real estate transactions with property tax implications.
  • Collaborate with appraisers, consultants, and expert witnesses in valuation and litigation support.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with clients, colleagues, and opposing counsel throughout all stages of representation.
  • Stay current with legislative and regulatory developments impacting Texas property tax and real estate law.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Minimum 3–7 years of relevant experience in property tax, real estate law, or related litigation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Texas Property Tax Code, including administrative protest procedures and judicial appeals.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and litigation skills with a proven record of effective client advocacy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present complex valuation and legal concepts clearly.
  • Experience working with commercial property owners and investors preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
