Commercial Insurance Placement Specialist
Location:
Houston, TX | Salary: $75,000 - $125,000
This position is responsible for independently managing the marketing/placement of new account opportunities (small business) with partner insurance carriers. You will support Select Commercial producers by negotiating carrier coverages and terms, preparing proposals, and finalizing the placement and binding process.
Responsibilities- Establish and maintain relationships with production teams to obtain pertinent information for quotations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carrier partners.
- Serve as a source of knowledge on appetite, market trends, pricing practices, and underwriting policies.
- Participate in carrier meetings and share information with Select operations and sales.
- Negotiate and sell opportunities to carrier partners, quote online via carrier rating tools or submit to underwriters; collaborate with the Team Lead when necessary.
- Complete marketing summaries outlining terms, rates, commissions, bind order documents, and carrier responses, including reasons for declination.
- Bind coverage with underwriters and finalize the marketing process.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation in agency management systems and marketing files for each managed account.
- Meet service standards and best practices developed by USI.
- Participate in additional projects and duties as assigned.
- 3-7 years’ experience in Commercial Property & Casualty; comprehensive understanding of all coverage types, placement, underwriting, and rating concepts.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with minimal instruction.
- Sales‑driven and solution‑oriented, helping to meet production and growth goals.
- Creative and proactive problem solver and negotiator.
- Prioritizes workflow to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate work.
- Stays informed on industry and product updates, legislation, coverages, and technology.
- Knowledge of agency management systems, workflow procedures, underwriting, sales, and service processes.
- Proficient in Word and Excel.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must hold a state Property & Casualty Insurance License.
- Maintains cordial, effective relationships with production teams, co‑workers, carriers, vendors, and business contacts.
- Communicates purposefully and provides guidance to achieve USI’s business goals.
